It’s no secret that Hipster Investments turned two – we’ve been celebrating all month long! So, in the spirit of this, it’s time we reflected on how time works and how you can best use it. See, when it comes to success, time plays a key role: it can be a hindrance or a help. Time can hinder us when we worry too much about it and place unrealistic goals on ourselves. Sometimes, when working toward a goal, we may think things are happening too slowly and lose motivation; other times, we might think that success takes too long, and we may throw in the towel before we even start. Time is what it is, but we can change our attitudes toward it. This post focuses on the positives of time and how you can use them successfully.
See the Possibilities in Time, not the Limitations
A professor once said to me that being in the “not-knowing” was a time of great personal growth and potential fruitfulness. At the time, his words didn’t help me — I was not only confused about what I would write for my final paper but also what I was going to do with the rest of my life! I simply didn’t have time to be confused. If I could go back in time, I’d certainly agree with him! If you’re not where you want to be, and you feel like you’re wasting your time, change how you’re thinking. Instead of panicking and lamenting like I did, focus your thoughts and use time productively. You can do things that have proven results, like sitting in positive meditation for a set time each day. During these moments, release your stress and worry; think positive thoughts. Envision a movie of your success playing on the inside of your eyelids and visualize it. Sound corny? Not at all! These things work! Time is a gift and you need to make it work for you!
Give Yourself a Deadline and Meet it
If sitting in meditation and being patient isn’t your thing — and, let’s face it, many of us business-oriented people feel this way! — then use time as structure. Set yourself a firm deadline and throw yourself into abiding by it. Most importantly, though, be realistic in terms of what you can achieve. If your over-perform, that will only give you more cause to celebrate and rejoice! Many results-oriented people need the structure and positive pressure a set time limit can provide, so it’s is just another way of making time work for you! Well, what happens if you underperform, according to your standards? Nothing! Just be flexible and continue to follow your plan.

Honor Where you are and Don’t ever get Discouraged
If things aren’t happening the way you want them to — or as fast as you’d like them to! — don’t be discouraged. Understand that each moment is necessary and keep your thoughts focused on your goals and eventual success. Things will happen. Honor your plans, honor yourself, and give it some time; you will not fail. Look at us: in two years, we’ve been able to accomplish so much, and we’ve spent the past month celebrating our success! It can be hard and it can be frustrating, but, in the end, it’s all worth it.
Key Takeaway for Everyone
Time is a fact of life and there no getting away from it; however, it is also a tool that you can use to your benefit. See the positives and possibilities in time; use them to your advantage!
