The title says a lot, doesn’t it? Your comfort zone… what, exactly is that, anyway? Your bed? Your couch? Your bedroom? Metaphorically: yes, yes and yes. It’s a place where you feel safe and cozy. Protected from danger. Well, comfortable. What does your comfort zone look like? How much time do you spend in it?
Before we go into some specifics on ditching your comfort zone (hopefully, forever), let’s look at how your comfort zone isn’t that cool after all. Would you rather sleep on your old mattress or in a brand new bed in your dream house? Well? Next, would you rather sleep on your couch or chill out on a hammock in Fiji? We thought so. Once you leave your comfort zone, you can find all sorts of new “zones” that are both comfortable and in line with your life goals. Because, after all, your life goals probably aren’t about spending a whole bunch of time in the same old place doing the same old thing. To explore ditching your comfort zone, we’re going to take a look at some quotes that truly inspire.
“Move out of your comfort zone. You can only grow if you are willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable when you try something new.” Brian Tracy
Feeling awkward and uncomfortable really is the pits. None of us want to feel embarrassed, in over our heads, clueless, etc… The thing is, you can’t grow unless you learn. Remember that every successful person had to, at one point or another, ditch their comfort zones and go out on a limb. Then, they needed to learn to balance there. And guess what? They probably fell more times than they are willing to admit!
“As you move outside of your comfort zone, what was once the unknown and frightening becomes your new normal.”-Robin S. Sharma
Think back to your very first day of school – ever. Remember how exciting but overwhelming it was?! Meeting the new teacher? Your classmates. Finding your desk. Learning the classroom boundaries and expectations. Leaving your comfort zone is kinda like that. At first, everything feels new and a little frightening. Ultimately, it becomes a routine. A habit. It’s something you know – and know well. Something you do well. Keep that in mind: it’s not always going to feel super overwhelming!
“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” – Neale Donald Walsch
That’s the thing about comfort zones. Life can’t flourish when you hide within them. The lifestyle of your dreams, the lifestyle you want and need to design, is out there – if you’re willing to jump out of your comfort zone and take some action steps to get where it is you want to go. Life begins outside of your comfort zone. Think about the times you’ve ventured outside of your comfort zone. What did you achieve? Even if you made mistakes, you probably learned things that helped you get to your desired end goals. Learning is moving forward….
Key Takeaway for Everyone:
Think about the first man on the moon. He probably wasn’t super comfortable being blasted off into space. He did it, though. Now, he’ll forever be remembered around the world in history books. The best way to have the life of your dreams is to think like an astronaut. Endure what’s uncomfortable so that you can achieve greatness.
Key Takeaway for Real Estate Investors:
Let’s face it: investing in anything isn’t always the most comfortable arrangement. Money is at stake. There are a bunch of different variables at play. You stand to lose. You stand to win. Think back to the first man on the moon. It may not have been a comfortable experience, but NASA and the astronauts prepared and trained hard. They felt reasonably confident the shuttle and moonwalk would turn out to be safe… and it did. When you do your homework as an investor, and work with the right professionals, you can feel reasonably confident your investment will turn out to be safe. Shoot for the moon. Go for it!
