Hey, Lifestyle Designers: What Would Steve Jobs Do?Okay, Hipsters. We’re looking to the Elvis Presley of Computers – aka Steve Jobs – for today’s lifestyle inspiration. Steve Jobs, in many ways, was the ultimate lifestyle designer. He didn’t take “no, you can’t do it that way” for an answer. Where other people saw limitations, he saw boundless opportunities. Then – he created them. He created opportunity not just for himself,  but for all of us, as well.

Consider this oft-quoted bit of Jobs-ian wisdom, “When you grow up you tend to get told the world is the way it is and your life is just to live your life inside the world. Try not to bash into the walls too much. Try to have a nice family, have fun, save a little money. That’s a very limited life. Life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact: Everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you and you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use.

Once you learn that, you’ll never be the same again.”

This line: “Everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you.” Powerful, right? We often go through life in awe. We are in awe of the buildings we see, the cars we drive, the technology we love. Most of us don’t know the intricate workings of these things around us – and we assume we’re not capable or not intelligent enough. The truth is this: an average IQ is between 85 and 115: only 5 percent go above 125. 5 percent of people do not create 100 percent of the things we see and use each day, do they?

Use this knowledge as freedom. You can do the things you dream of. You can have the life you want. You are smart enough to achieve anything you want to. You are capable. If others are and have been able to achieve and do big things, so too can you.

A principal part of making lifestyle design really work for you is believing in yourself. Here’s a fun Hipster Challenge for you: pick something you’ve never done or made before that you think is a little bit beyond your capability (no, we’re not saying you should try to build a rocket – don’t worry!). Maybe it’s a Pinterest project or one of those off-the-wall ones on Instructables, maybe it’s a book you’re kinda interested in but feels a little too lofty, maybe it’s going to a networking event when you’re not Ms. or Mr. Social. Whatever it is, make it something that seems a little out of reach. Now, go and get ‘em. See what happens. You will probably surprise yourself (be sure to come back and comment with your results).

Happy Lifestyle Designing, Hipsters!

Key Takeaway for Everyone:
Life may be a mystery, but the world around us is totally approachable, doable and…. re-writable. We have the power to rewrite the world, and our lives, to our liking – if we admit we have that power and learn how to use it.

Key Takeaway for Real Estate Investors:
You know all those successful so-called gurus who tell you they know a sure-fire way to riches and they’re willing to sell it to you for a whole bunch of money? Guess what? They’re not wildly smarter, craftier or luckier than you are. If you do your research, your due diligence and rely on your gut (such an important compass), you can find the way to wealth creation that works for you – unique you!
