lifestyle design blogging As you know, Hipster focuses on lifestyle design an awful lot. Why? We believe it is a way to live better: it harnesses modern technology and modern thought and makes us have some pretty fantastic experiences when your intentions on how you want to live are deliberate and considered. So…. what are your intentions for what you want out of life? Are your intentions in line with your actions? Ask yourself this: be honest. Be open to change.

If your actions aren’t lining up with your intentions, it could be that you need to change the way you think – just a bit. Just as with cars, a few tweaks could make a big difference.

1. Working Hard Pays Off

Yes – working hard pays off sometimes. Certainly, not working at all on anything doesn’t come with huge pay offs. That being said, working hard just isn’t a surefire way to get the successes you want in life. Why? You need to work smarter. Don’t work hard in a gas station convenience store, mopping the floors, thinking one day your opportunity for success is just going to walk in. It’s not. You need to go find the money – the success – the opportunity – and get it for yourself. Work hard for it – but don’t work hard, expecting magic to happen.

2. Things Matter

Yeah, shelter, food, water, clothing – that stuff matters. But – ask yourself this – how much? What’s most important? Isn’t life more than the things you have? When you answer honestly, you realize it is. Don’t work to acquire: work to live. Simple – but so powerful.

3. The More Formal Education, The Better

Yes, getting a degree can – and often does – change your life completely. That being said, not all degrees are created equal. Don’t just go after a degree for the heck of it, or because you think it will lead you to bigger, better things. Let your passion lead you – whether that’s to a degree, college or an apprenticeship. Education matters, but it’s costly, time-consuming and sometimes not for everyone!

4. Life Owes You Anything At All

Yes, you’ve heard it before: life just doesn’t owe you all that much. However, it bears repeating. Don’t just sit around waiting for magic. Go find your own. There are mountains out there; there are rivers; there are rainbows. You can find or see or enjoy them from bed. Get up, go – no, really go. Life isn’t going to come at you – it’s out there waiting for you to come at it.

5. Risk Isn’t Worth It

Um – no. Just – no. Sometimes, risk is so worth it. Famous musician Tom Waits once sang, ‘you must risk something that matters.’ Truer words have seldom been spoken. Think about every single successful person you’ve ever met. Did they get there by skipping the risk and taking the higher, safer road? Sometimes, maybe – but still, they took risks. You know it. They know it. It’s an unspoken truth.

Key Takeaway For Everyone:
Lifestyle design is amazing (just check out the Hipster Instagram to find some true inspiration). Don’t get tripped out (not that it’s totally avoidable) – but do adhere to some basic, strong principles that will guide you when the going gets tough!

Key Takeaway For Real Estate Investors:
Don’t rest on your investing laurels. Don’t expect to make money from nothing. Take care of your properties; take care of your portfolios. Take (calculated) risks. Don’t overpay for useless education. Don’t work just to accumulate. Invest to live.

I once again find myself spending way too much time
both reading and commenting. But so what, it was still worth it!
